What is Tramadol?

All of us experience pain, and this is one of the symptoms why we rush to the doctor and seek for medical assistance. Needless to say, feeling pain, both externally and internally can be linked to countless of medical conditions. Sometimes when the feeling becomes unbearable, it may actually turn into a disease in itself.

Tramadol is one of the common home drugs when it comes to pain medication. But what is Tramadol? It requires a highly scientific description to fully explain its content, but to avoid a complicated discussion let us put it in a nutshell—Tramadol is an Tramadol 50mganalgesic drug that is said to operate in the body like morphine. What it does is to cement itself and modify the effects of opioid receptors in the brain. These so-called opioids are the ones responsible in delivering the sensation of pain that patients feel within their body.

It is common among patients suffering from arthritis to be prescribed with Tramadol HCl 50 mg tablets. Other patients that can be advised to take the drug are those who feel moderate to severe chronic pain. Contrary to popular belief, Tramadol is not an anti-inflammatory drug that controls swelling. As mentioned, it serves as an agonist to brain’s opioids. Through its binding work with the receptor, the drug lightens the way in which the body feels the pain.

The body can very well tolerate the effects of taking Tramadol. However, patients who have pre-existing medical conditions or are too sensitive may experience some unwanted effects. These however are very temporary and light. Patients may experience an itchy sensation, having rashes, sweating profusely, and feeling drowsy. Other patients may also experience vomiting and constipation.

Tramadol Hydrochloride HCl 50mgTramadol HCl 50 mg tablets can be bought over the counter in some countries, but extended formulations like the 100 mg, 200 mg, and 300 mg versions should only be taken with doctor’s advice. Needless to say, patients who need to take higher dosages are those who feel severe chronic pain and need to undergo a long-term treatment. It is important to note that the higher dosage tablets should be taken as a whole. Splitting or crushing a 200 mg tablet into two does not make it 100 mg each. If the tablets are taken without the recommended procedure, patients can experience serious side effects.

Just like other pain-killing drugs, Tramadol can be very addictive, and taking it can be a habit for some people. Patients, in their anticipation of the coming pain, tend to take more tablets than necessary. When taking more dosages becomes a habit, it causes dependency and worse, addiction. Just like in the effects of quitting recreational drugs, Tramadol can also send unwanted withdrawal symptoms if stopped suddenly. Doctors are the only ones who can effectively turn in a plan on how to decrease the dose gradually and avoid unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.

Overdose of the drug can bring a fatal situation. Patients who take too much tablets at once may experience difficulty in breathing and unconsciousness. Those who can’t tolerate it may submit to coma, seizures and heart attack.
